Brought to you by DI Tall Ship Company, Drummond Island Tourism Association, and DI Yacht Haven.

Save the date, bring the family and come celebrate with us for a fun day celebrating the christening of the newest tall ship of the Great Lakes – Schooner Huron Jewel! Years of dreaming, two years of building, and countless sweat equity, saw dust, and epoxy, she’ll finally be in the water!

At High Noon – the start of the nautical day – with special guest Judge Michael MacDonald presiding, we’ll honor all the volunteers who helped  build the schooner and christen the her with a good bottle of rum, blow of the conch shell, and fire of the cannon! (Yes cannon!)

We’re planning to have lots of fun for everyone! Activities include music by Lee Murdock, balladeer of the Great Lakes, deck tours and sailing trips, a schooner-sized photo booth, book signing by Ron Rademacher of Michigan Back Roads book series, knot tying, food, booths, and more.

Throughout the day Lee Murdock, the balladeer of the Great Lakes, will be entertaining folks with his songs and musical stories. Then in the evening he’ll put on a formal concert. Bring your chairs, blankets and the kids for an evening of good family fun!

Come taste food that will be offered on our trips, prepared by Esther’s Authentic Mexican Cuisine, Gourmet Galley, Drummond Island Fudge & Confectionary, Island Dining by Ross Kaplan. And be sure to get some Huron Jewel fresh brewed coffee from Les Cheneaux Coffee Roasters. (Yes they’ve named a coffee after the schooner!)

The Islander Shoppe and Bear Graphics will have Schooner Huron Jewel merchandise along with Yooper and Puddingstone Pennies.

Save the date and stay tuned for more details.

We look forward to seeing you there!

– First Mate Julie
